Jan van Wechelen was born some time between 1530 and 1537.〔(Hans van Wechlen, ''Peasants merrymaking at a village kermesse'' ) at Sotheby’s〕〔(Hans van Wechelen, ''Road to Calvary'' ) at the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya〕 He is first mentioned in 1557 as Jan van Wechlen, the master of an apprentice by the name of Hans de Boeys in the records of the Guild of Saint Luke in Antwerp. He is known for his collaborations with Cornelis van Dalem.〔
